Redistricting: Dead Again
December 12, 2025
In the Indianapolis Statehouse, a brave group of legislators worked together to defeat a voting redistricting plan that would have given Republicans an unfair advantage in the upcoming mid-term elections.
- Indiana has nine voting districts. Before the proposed redistricting plan, Republicans held a 7-2 advantage over Democrats. The new plan would have likely eliminated both of the two Democratic seats, leaving them at 9-0, an obvious disadvantage.
- The Indiana State Constitution calls for redistricting review every ten years, after the National Census is completed. The new plan violated this constitutional statute, attempting to redistrict mid-cycle before these upcoming elections.
- HB 1032 was successfully passed by the House. However, in spite of intense pressure from national and other state offices, the Bill was rejected in the Senate by a 31-19 final vote.
Those voting NO on the bill included Senator(s) Blake Doriot, Linda Rogers and Ryan Miller, all of whom are Republicans. We thank all the Senators who saw the Bill for what it really was!
They are clear winners in the hard-fought battle to protect fair voting rights, making Indiana voters clear winners as well.
