Goshen Call to Action

August 10, 2025

Yesterday morning, about 90 community members came together for our Goshen Call to Action meeting at Rogers Park Pavilion. We built on the incredible momentum from July 14, when 230 people from across the political spectrum rallied at Shanklin Park to defend what makes Goshen a diverse, welcoming, and forward-thinking community.

At the meeting, we discussed the urgent need for fundraising — as our movement grows, we will need a suitable rental space to accommodate our large group, and that requires resources. We’re looking for people with fundraising skills to step up and help. Information was shared on the current state of repressive immigration policies and how we can respond in Goshen.

We also learned about Senate Bill 1 and its devastating impact on the City of Goshen’s budget — an estimated 38% reduction in revenues, which is catastrophic. SB 1 hollows out Goshen’s ability to fund basic services like police, fire, parks, and roads—effectively gutting city operations. Goshen is trying to make up these insufficiencies with a Wheel Tax, and you can find out more by attending the City Council meeting on Monday, August 25 at 6:00 PM. You can also get an update and first reading of the City’s budget on September 8, and the second reading is scheduled for September 29.

Together, we can make a positive difference for Goshen.  Let’s show up, speak out, and stand united for our community.
