Impressive turnout for No King’s Protest

An enthusiastic crowd of approximately 500 people attended the No King’s Protest in front of the historical Courthouse in downtown Goshen.

It was Goshen’s own version of “March Madness” on this chilly but pleasant Saturday afternoon.  The day was close to the end of March, but signs carried by the crowd definitely expressed Madness in the form of anger and frustration against the Trump administration.  These colorful, creative signs attacked political policies and actions currently being conducted such as unlawful ICE enforcement, the War with Iran, withholding of the Epstein files, and other unpopular activities.

Street traffic was supportive of the group’s efforts with friendly honking and waving in approval; some vehicles even had signs of their own for the crowd to see.  All walks of life were represented by the turnout today from walkers to strollers.  The mood was upbeat and pleasant with little counter-protest activity noted. 

Nationally, there were over 3,000 scheduled protests with an estimated eight million people participating.  Indiana accounted for more than sixty of these protests.  Foreign countries also participated in the No Kings protests.  Europe conducted events in London, Paris, Rome, Madrid, and Brussels.  Sydney, Australia also staged a No Kings Protest against the current administration.

 The event was organized by Goshen Youth United.  Goshen City Democrats had an information table set up on the front lawn of the Courthouse staffed by Party members.  Also present in the crowd were several of the newly announced candidates for public office running in the upcoming May Primaries. Live music helped keep the crowd energized and involved. 

A strong message was sent to Washington today, and hopefully, the “March Madness” expressed, not only here but nationally and internationally, will have a positive impact on future governmental decisions and policies.
