Milne, Decio Win Contested Primary Elections

May 7, 2026

Michelle Milne won her primary race decisively and will be facing Joanna King in November to represent Indiana’s 49th district at the Statehouse. Milne was one of three candidates seeking the state representative nomination. Also in the running were Susan Lawson and Monica Garbachiak.

Jamee Decio defeated her only opponent and will run against Rudy Yakym to be the U.S. Representative for Indiana’s 2nd Congressional district. She defeated Shaun Michael Maeyens, a teacher and small business owner from South Bend.

By the Numbers

Here are the unofficial election numbers courtesy of WNDU 16 Election-2026:

          Indiana State House

                  Michelle Milne – 1,471 votes                      66.7%

               Susan Lawson – 445 votes                       20.2%

               Monica Garbachiak – 288 votes                  13.1%

          U.S. House of Representatives

                  Jamee Decio – 18,126 votes                        72.1%

               Shaun Michael Maeyens – 7,026 votes         27.9%

Decio attended an election after party event in South Bend with staffers, well wishers, family, and friends.  She also addressed Goshen Democrats at a downtown Goshen campaign rally on Tuesday, April 28.  Her message to voters was loud and clear!  Prices of gas, groceries, healthcare and energy are way too high and constituents need some relief.  She feels like the American Dream seems to be slipping out of reach for many Americans.

An after party for the Goshen City Democrats was held at a popular downtown Goshen retail establishment.  All three Indiana state house candidates were present and were grateful for all the hard work and effort put forth from campaign staffers and supporters.  Milne, the evening’s winner, has pledged to listen to her constituents and bring people together.   She also wants to strengthen democracy and protect voting rights if elected.
