Take Action: Stop Redistricting
The Trump administration and Governor Braun are putting pressure on the Indiana legislature to redraw congressional district lines before next year’s midterm election to eliminate the last two Democratic-leaning districts in the state. The new legislative session is being called early for this purpose, beginning on December 1, and they are actively whipping Republican votes for this right now. This is not a done deal yet, and many Republicans are still on the fence, so now is the time for you to contact your state legislators and ask them to oppose efforts to redistrict.
Goshen’s state senator is Blake Doriot (800-382-9467 or 317-232-9400, [email protected]) and our state representative is Joanna King (800-382-9841 or 317-232-9657, [email protected]).
We know they keep track of the calls and emails they receive, and we know they are feeling intense pressure on this, so it is critical that we keep the pressure on. Calling has the most impact, but emails are helpful too. Below is a draft email you can adapt or use as-is.
Dear __,
Please don’t let Washington push you into redistricting our state! Drawing new maps does not reflect the wishes of Hoosiers and goes against the concept of equal representation. The Indiana Congressional districts were just redrawn in 2021 with the new census information and maps are scheduled to be redrawn every 10 years. We should adhere to this process. To redraw them again this year would be at significant taxpayer expense. But even more importantly, it would be undemocratic. Changing the maps for partisan reasons is not fair to the citizens of Indiana and I trust that you are a person who wants to treat Indiana citizens fairly. Reject outside interference; stand up for a fair and independent redistricting process.
Sincerely, (your name)
This is not a done deal yet, so now is the time to act!
